I live in a world where it’s cheaper to insure a brand new Mustang GT (if not leased, otherwise it’s a bit more expensive) than !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I’m a male under 25. Is it just because of the rarity or brand issues or what? Because that doesn’t seem right.

Insurance costs are based in part on repair and part costs. How much would it cost to replace the healight assembly on the BMW vs the new Mustang? Or the cost of a rear bumper and hatch if you get rear-ended?
Add in rarity and other risk multipliers (parking location, neighbourhood crime, km driven per year) and you can see why it’s so costly.
But shop around. You’ll be surprised how much variance there can be in prices.

It’s a Saab, so getting parts would probably be pretty damn difficult. Plus 2.8 litre V6 not commonly used, which adds problems.
Just daydreaming at the moment. Don’t have enough cash to be serious at this point.

Also that Saab chassis design 15 years old so the ford may be safer.
Yeah and expensive replacement parts don't help.

Well once i’ve had my own car for 3 years, my insurance stopped caring if i insure a Skoda Felicia 1.3 or a Volvo 850 T5 with 225HP. “nyeah, he’s had some experience, let ‘em”

I’m over 25, but even then insurance was cheaper for me on a 2012 Mustang GT than it was an ‘04 SRT-4. Insurance is weird like that. I’m convinced the data for developing actuarial tables involves the alignment of the planets and the rectal temperature of a cow in Kazakhstan.

I bet a part of that is because parts for that Saab will be very expensive if they need to buy any for you.

But that Tyler Durden guy he hung around with seemed pretty cool.

Somehow a V12 XJS would be $20/month cheaper to insure than my current sensible six cylinder german sedan.

A company’s claim history with a particular make and model can have as much to do with premiums as the particular driver. This was reinforced to me when I bought the corvette, which turns out to be the cheapest to insure car I’ve ever owned. A friend of mine who worked in claims for a an insurance company put it to me this way: people just don’t seem to crash corvettes very often. He pointed out that folks crash Honda civics all time, and the same with V6 mustangs, and leased 3 series, and so on. If you’re over 25, there are some seriously fast and/or interesting cars that cost surpringly little to insure. It turns out a 996 would be even less to insure than the vette. 996 could also be the answer to where I go for an interesting and affordable daily driven after the vette.
